Managed Assessment: Aptitude and Ability

 

Knauf Insulation

Business Need: Knauf Insulation is the UK’s leading insulation company. It represents one of the most respected and progressive names in European building products. In 2011, with the business continuing to grow and develop, Knauf’s busy HR team decided that they wanted to offer additional support and rigour to their recruiting managers by providing aptitude testing for all management and specialist roles.

Solution: Knauf have used our managed assessment service extensively and have asked us to provide aptitude testing for over 25 separate recruitment projects within the UK. We’ve taken the burden from their HR team, by tailoring the choice of tests for each role and the administering the tests, managing candidates and collating results. We’ve utilised a range of numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning tests to address the key skills required in their role requirements.

We then provided clear and simple reports to the HR team in a format that they use to feed into the recruitment context and provide feedback to the candidates.

Outcome: Using our Managed Assessment service has saved enabled the Knauf HR team to add relevance, rigour and objectivity to their recruitment process, whilst freeing their time to focus on supporting the business and their recruiting managers.

 

National Health Service

Business Need: The North Western Deanery oversees postgraduate medical education and training with a responsibility for over 4,000 trainee doctors and other health professionals.

Identifying the intellectual horsepower of people who can cope with the complex cognitive demands of the field and related roles is critical, and they have been using our Managed Assessment service for over 5 years to provide rigour and focus to their recruitment to their programmes.

Solution: Using our Managed Assessment Service, we arranged for a number of candidates to complete complex numerical and verbal reasoning assessments which closely mirrored the demands of the role.

We then provided feedback reports within an exacting timeframe to the NHS, together with some simple reports which could be provided to the candidates by way of feedback.

Outcome: Whilst the candidates possessed similar backgrounds and qualifications, the tests clearly differentiated between those who were more intellectually capable for the demands of the roles.
